Medieval Feast 2015
The year is 845 AD. Kenneth McAlpin (Cináed mac Ailpín) has joined the Picts and Gaelic Dal Riata into a Gaelic kingdom with strong Norse connections. While the Vikings are still raiding along the eastern and southern coasts of the island into what is now England, they are beginning to settle and intermarry with the Gaels of the Western Isles and Highlands. Our mythical kingdom in the Islands of Dal Riata is equal parts newly Christian, brought from Ireland by St Columba, old Druid, and Viking Norse, with the customs of each belief system very much in evidence. As our court gathers to celebrate their midwinter feast, each of these cultures will be integral to the evening. The mists of legend swirl around the period as the old ways and the new ways collide.
Enjoy a little history with a side dish of humor. Shake off the snow and wintry doldrums and wear your favorite Medieval period finery (plain clothing allowed, too, if you must). Be prepared to enjoy numerous dishes prepared using traditional ingredients of the period. Bring your finest period dining utensils, plates, mugs, goblets and napkins, candles (column styles stand easily on the table – if you bring tapers, bring candleholders, as well.) Place settings can be provided, if necessary.
Special guest entertainers – the COSMIC Symphony Flute Choir (http://www.cosmicsymphony.org/) Traditional Dancing after dinner. For additional information please email [email protected].
