The Celtic Society of Southern Maryland (CSSM) presents an annual Summer/Autumn Celtic Music Festival that showcases performing artists for an evening concert and brings enthusiastic musicians from the local community to participate in 2-hour afternoon workshops with the evening’s performers.
This year, CSSM is pleased to present Ocean Quartet (Jennifer Cutting, electric keyboard and accordions; Stephen Winick, vocals; Lisa Moscatiello, vocals; and Andrew Dodds, Scottish fiddle) – the band nominated for "Best Traditional Folk Group" by the Washington Area Music Association! With its buoyant beats and soaring Celtic melodies, OCEAN provides an uplifting soundtrack for traveling hopefully on life's changing seas. Audiences can lose themselves in dreamy reverie, or cut loose and dance to the propulsive beat of electric jigs and reels. It's a marriage of otherworldly Celtic beauty and raw World-Beat energy. There's nothing else like it anywhere...it's Celtic Music for Ancient Moderns!
The workshops and concert will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the newly renovated indoor theater, Calvert Marine Museum, Calvert Marine Museum 14200 Solomons Island Rd, Solomons, MD 20688 USA
Afternoon workshops will be offered by the performers from 2 – 4pm as follows:
• Scottish Fiddle Tune Teach-in by Andrew Dodds;
• Songs of the Supernatural from the Celtic Tradition by Stephen Winick;
• Writing New Celtic Songs that Sound Old by Jennifer Cutting; and
• DADGAD Open Tuning: Guitar for Celtic Song and Tune Accompaniment by Lisa Moscatiello
